Reserves
Another great win by the boys, Next
week should be a cracker 1st v 2nd. Best Shaun, DT,
Chesty, Dezzy & Bobby. Goals Adam 5, Lepper & Wheels 4
u/19's
Not a good way to represent the club
in the 1st half, Your here to play Footy. Training Wednesday &
Thursdays now.
Goals Payne 2, 1each to Zabrieszach,
Missailidis, Johnston & Sheil.
26/04/08
Today we had all three teams at home, The day
started with the u/19's unveiling their premiership flag,
The boys then shot out of the boxes against Whittlesea with a four goal
to one 1st quarter and a seven to four goal lead at the big break.
Our boys lack
of fitness showed in the second half with the boys only kicking 3
more goals for the rest of the match, eventually going down to a fit Whittlesea
team by 8 goals.
Goal kickers were Matt Radziejewski 3, Kyle Mansfield & Russell
Payne with 2 each. Better players on the day were Liam, Costa, Luke,
Daniel & Jayden, We need to do a bit more work on the track
and better results will come.
The Junior Machine is still going flat chat
with no one able to get near them at the moment. With a 164 point
win you don't get a bad player, the only thing was the 27 points we
kicked.1st Quarter; four goals, 2nd; five goals, 3rd; eight goals & the last
seven goals. Better players were Carpet, DT, Cawsey, Lukey, Les & Kane Searle.
Goal Kickers Adam I'm bored 5, Cawsey & Stilla 3 each, Blow, Jnr &
Lukey 2 each.
The Senior's had nice 100 point win, with a 15 goal
to 2 first half was all that was needed to take the points, A little
concerned with the second half was only 7 goals to 5. Better players
were;
Curran, Pearso, Milky, Spoon, Twiggy and Welcome Matt Pow.
Goal Kickers : Mr Curran 9, Welcome back to full forward, and 2 each
to Donga, Twiggy, Pow& Reesy.
Next Week Hurstbridge There.
20/04/08
Well
what a weekend it all started on Friday night under lights with the
u/11s having a big win at Yarrambat and the u/19's having a 7 goal
win against Watsonia. I watched the u/19's and was pleasantly
surprised on how good the boys looked, with 13 of the boys playing,
only coming to the club in the last few weeks. Some of the better
players were Liam, Eggy, Luke Hagg, Matt Radziejewski, Daniel Shiel
& Robert Johnston but there wasn't a bad player to be seen. Now that
there is a playing list of 34 for the u/19's Rocket is a very happy
man, The Thursday before round one we had 12 players, Thanks to all
the clubs and the NFL with all their help clearing the boys so they
can play, No club held up any clearance.
Can some people PLEASE give Paul
Davies a hand on game day, he needs a Time Keeper, Umpire Escort and
Interchange Stewart, none of the jobs are hard and you still get to
see the whole game and help the club be a better club.
Now came Saturday and we all went up
to Panton Hill, The Maggos started the day off in fantastic style
having a 115 point win with only three good quarters of footy, the
boys went to sleep in the second & Jnr got stuck into them at the
long break and the boys came back with two seven goal quarters. Adam
& Jnr both kicked 4 and Beau Lowry, Jason Faralla, Ben Clark, Matt
McKenzie & Sam Wallace all got 2 goals. Now when you win by over 100
you don't have a bad player so well done to everyone. Special
mention to Trent Prior, got himself put to full back so he could
stand in the shade from the tree's & for the first time this year
managed to take all his gear home, although he lost his phone on
Friday night at Watsonia until he rang his number and the misses
answered it from home??? She must be a good woman as she gave him a
check list of things to bring home after the game.
Now comes the ones, After a poor
start and a luke warm 2nd quarter the boys went wild in the 3rd
& 4th quarter to come home with a 17 point win, Yes we won. We must
not and cannot give sides a huge start like we did on Saturday, What
is the point of having a coach when you don't do what is asked, You
proved in the first half it doesn't work, and when you started to do
what you were asked for the team and put your body in for the
team the whole game was turn right around. Remember it's a
TEAM sport so if you want to play a me sport go and play Golf.
With the size of the ground there
isn't much room for the forwards to lead so it was up to our full
back to kick 5 goals, well done Luke. The ever young Patty and Ben
Anderson both kicked 3 and the Collingwood six footer in Tyson got
2. We had a total of 10 different goal kicker for the game. After a
fair first half Donga was move up the field and asked to use his
controlled aggression and put the wind up a few of the Panton Hill
boys which seemed to work and spark us into action. With Doeven
playing a magnificent game, Reesy and Spudda ( aka Daniel
Roberts) Started to win more of the ball.
My BOG went to Mr Milky as he is now known, An outstanding Captains
game across the half back, One of the few players that had 4
great quarters. I think Tyson has come of age, he has proved to me
that he can and wants to play A grade footy, Just watch out for
those head high tackles.
The better player I could see through the dust at Panton Hill were
Marc Knight, Luke Drakes, Daniel Roberts, Tyson Truong, Matt Rees &
Krys Douglas, with a heap of cameos in the Game, It's much better
coming home with a win so lets rack up a few more. We have
Heidelberg West at home this week so get to the ground, as well we
will be unveiling the u/19's Premiership flag before their game
and as you know a Premiership flag doesn't come around all that
often.
Special mention goes to Junior and
Wheels, sparks were flying and you could cut the tension with a
knife after a very intimate dance routine between the both of
them... Get a room you two!
Coaches Report
Did
we witness more than a mere victory against Panton Hill ?
Yes we recorded our first win
for the season with a tenacious come from behind victory full of
fight and belief.
There were more significant signs for our future in that there
was a very real feeling that the boys were starting to blend and
bond.
More pieces of the puzzle snapped into place with John Raymond
looking likely at full back and Jay Pearson giving us some
structure at center half back.
Our younger players including
Spudda,Tyson,Shelts and Benny Anderson all were good
contributors whilst Rod Adams used his bulk and attack on the
footy to our great advantage in a great senior debut for the
season.
We look forward to more
improvement over the next week and hope you all can come down
and join us against West Heidelberg this week at home

Lest We Forget

13-04-08
Today we had a big crowd at Mernda
in cool conditions.
The result in the one's wasn't so
good . Mernda 8-3-51 Whittlesea 23-13-151. The good players were
Jay Pearson, Luke Shelton, Phil Doeven, Luke Drakes & Justin Stewart
(BOG). Whittlesea reaped the benefit of a solid pre season, they
used the ball much better by hand and foot and ran hard all day.
That Game is now over so let's all get behind the boys and get a win
on the board. pull your fingers out and get to training and bloody
well put in.
On the other hand the Magoo's played
a great game of TEAM Footy and came home with the bacon. It's
was a great four quarter contest with the game still in the balance
15 min into the last quarter. Mernda 15-7-97 Whittlesea 11-6-72, Better players were Justin
D'Avoine, Brett Butler & Jason Szeremeta But you wont find a bad
player. Goals Rod Adams 4, Jnr 3 & Stilla Benny D'Avoine 2 each were
the multiple kickers. On a sad point it looks as it might have been
the last time we see Big Bez on the field for Mernda as he popped
his shoulder again. Get well soon there's still plenty you can do
for the club.
I would like to thank Whittlesea for
staying back and having a few beers and buying some raffle tickets.
I'm sure we can repay the same for you guys, on and off the field

Round two
Mernda vs
Whittlesea A Grade
We got smashed
yesterday, pure and simple, for everyone to see,
The process from here is simple, we are re-building, the rose
colour glasses many of us viewed our young brigade with have
been firmly re adjusted.
They, like all youngsters will take time to learn and develop
into senior football.
What is vital is that we don’t become accustomed to using the
re building phase as an excuse for all manner of sins. Pieces of
the jigsaw are coming together but like the puzzle they will not
make sense until you get a number of pieces clicked in alongside
each other.
I
remain as buoyant and optimistic as ever, my faith unbreakable
in the next generation of demons.
Keep
your heads up boys – it’s these trials that will make the end
victory all the more sweeter.
I was
impressed yesterday by stewy who continues to raise his hand as
a leader in times of true difficulty, Tyson who belies his size
with his tenacity and desire, Pat Curran who never stopped
trying all day and Luke drakes who continues to thrill all with
his high marking.
“courage does not always roar, sometimes it is the quiet voice
at the end of the day saying “ I will try again tomorrow”
Thanks
Rohan
